The Guard is transforming the way it is organized and does business to fight and defeat emerging threats in the war on terrorism. A key transformation goal is to minimize mobilization time frames, thereby placing a premium on individual readiness. Overall health and fitness, including dental readiness, is critical to individual readiness.

Dental readiness newsletters, Dental Bytes®, have been developed for the ARNG citizen Soldier and Family by Major General (US Army Retired) Patrick D. Sculley, DDS, MA, former chief of staff of the U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) and the second highest-ranking officer in the Army health care system. He was also deputy surgeon general of the Army and chief of the Army's Dental Corps. Information you need to improve and maintain your individual dental health is presented in each issue. Please sign in or sign up to receive ARNG Dental Bytes® e-newsletters throughout the year. Enjoy each article and "click" on the hyperlinks to fully benefit from all of this information. These electronic newsletters are being offered to all Minutemen as a means of supporting you with oral health and dental fitness education, support and resources.

All Minutemen can, and must, make a positive impact on the overall Army National Guard readiness posture.

A novel approach by the Army National Guard (ARNG) to provide health promotion to its members is underway in the Decade of Health (DOH). The first year has focused on dental readiness with an oral health awareness outreach, “ARNG Dental Bytes®.” An oral health promotion newsletter is available online, via email and print to ARNG Soldiers and families. It provides oral health promotion messages on a regular and recurring basis and fosters good oral health habits and regular professional dental care. It encourages ARNG Soldiers to take charge of their own dental health to improve their dental readiness. >> Read the entire article.
