Army National Guard Decade of Health and American Heart/American Stroke Associations Alliance Event

Arlington, VA

Everyone was seeing red at the Army National Guard Readiness Center in Arlington, VA this Valentine's Day; and that is a very good thing. The Readiness Center is now proudly displaying one of The American Heart Association's (AHA's) Red Dress Statues. On Thursday, February 14, 2008, the Jaclyn Smith-inspired statue, "Roses" was unveiled at a ceremony commemorating the Alliance between the Army National Guard (ARNG) and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA). The AHA/ASA Mid Atlantic affiliate reached out to ARNG Soldiers, Families and Friends through the Go Red for Women Campaign, and presented the statue that is on loan and will remain at the ARNG Readiness Center through May 30.

MG Deborah Wheeling, BG Darren Owens, Mrs. Lori Owens, ARNG Surgeon, COL David Sproat, and LTC Dawn Barrowman represented the ARNG Decade of Health program. Mr. Patrick Hurston, the Senior Director - Marketing Communications for the mid-Atlantic affiliate represented the AHA/ASA at this Go Red For Women event, and accepted a framed ARNG Decade of Health - AHA/ASA Alliance poster from Mrs. Owens.

Remarks made during the ceremony reminded guests that heart disease is the Number One killer of women. Soldiers, Families and Friends are encouraged to visit the ARNG Decade of Health website at www.decadeofhealth.com and actively participate by clicking on the GO RED ROSES icon taking them directly to the AHA's heart checkup survey.
